Description

4cm² surface area is ideal for low cost evaluation experiments or new types of catalyst or membranes. It is typically used within academia or R&D labs as a mean for screening activity a range of newly made materials. Upon a positive result, usually a larger area test (25cm² or larger) will be initiated.

PEM components offers a 4cm² Gas Diffusion Electrode (GDE). Its dimensions are 20mm by 20mm and the surface is coated with a Pt/C (50%wtPt) catalyst onto SGL Sigracet 28BC gas diffusion layer (GDL). It is mainly used for as electrodes for fuel cells, cathodes of electrolyzers, compression or purification. Some standard loadings are offered, lower loadings are often used for anodes of fuel cells, cathodes for electrolyzers, compression or cathode for purifyers. Higher loadings are used for cathodes of fuel cells or anodes for purification.

Apart from these standard electrodes, PEM components also offers tailored solutions. It has all production equipment in house as well as the required expertise therefore, it is possible to specify your desired loading, to incooperate your own catalyst material or even to switch out GDL to your preferred GDL. Please contact us for the possibilities to tailor make your GDE’s

  • How to use

Please use powder free nitril gloves when handling electrodes to prevent potential contamination. Avoid contact with volatile materials or enriched oxygen atmosfears without proper safety precautions.

There are 2 sides on the GDE, namely:

    • The grey-ish fibre side
    • The black smooth side

The black smooth side should face the membrane as it is the catalyst coated side.

The electrodes are 235 micrometer thick and can be compressed to enhance contact. PEM components provides these spacers in the form of border material.
